From 'I HAVE to run' to 'I WANT to run' ! "I started to run occasionally almost two years ago when I was in my early 40's and realized that some physical exercise should be good, not only for my body but also for my mind. From a practical perspective, running was the most convenient activity as I could practice it whenever and wherever and could be easily accommodated within my existing (and busy) professional and personal life. However, unlike other type of sports which I used to practice and to enjoy, running was an activity that I hated all my life. It became like a sort of a challenge: the more I run the more I hated it. Then, I stopped for a while, but I felt guilty and restarted again, but again I stopped, restarted, stopped… Then, by coincidence, I came across Tao of Running. Stephane is a passionate trainer and teacher. His knowledge and his background are amazingly broad and his statements and advices are deeply supported. Through his coaching sessions, I progressively started to feel what he was telling in the 'classes' was not anymore theory but real. Following Stephane's techniques and mindfulness advices I've started to run smoothly, wisely, aware of my physical sensations, then the overall benefits flew naturally. Personally, I am feeling healthier, with more confidence as my physical condition has improved; it has also impacted positively my professional life as my levels of stress have decreased and mindfulness has helped to analyze obstacles and behaviors from a different perspective, resulting in better overall performance. Thanks to Stephane, I was able to achieve something unbelievable before I joined the program: I finished a half marathon after two months of preparation in 2h 40', keeping the same pace along the entire run. As a regular runner, I was not expecting major changes… but after the 10 weeks transformation program and few HM… I realize that it changed completely my vision and perception of running from the way to move, the way to use my mind, the way to breath and even the way to eat!I completed my first HM in June 2016 after a preparation based on long run in happy zone (1h52). Age is not a reason to stop improving and I decided to sign up for the 10 week program with an open mind to see what I could get from it. I can definitely see a lot of benefits from this program. I was beginning to feel dejected in my recent long distance runs. I was more enduring them and my time/speed were stagnating for a while. "I stumbled upon Stéphane's facebook page by chance and reading through it got me interested. I then checked his website and I contacted him to see if I could do the programme from abroad (I live in Belgium). After telling him what my goals were I started the 10 weeks training. My objectives were to 1) stop hating to run 2) connect my body and mind. I did not aim at running a marathon but simply to start enjoying the act of running. I received really more than expected! Stephane was really committed in this long distance training; He shared his well organised programme with me as well as some very valuable and interesting videos and articles. " I took part in ToR 10 week program to prepare for the running part (20 kms) of a Spartan race. ToR gave me a total different perspective of what running can be. What used to be a pain became a pleasure in a matter of weeks.My old me would have been stressed for weeks before the race but it was not the case. "Angkor Wat half marathon was an amazing experience for me! Not only because of the scenic route, but also because I was definitely seeing some huge benefits of this program ! I kept my promise to myself and forgot the time to focus on enjoying the run and paying attention to my body-mind connection. I didn't even bring my headphones, and didn't miss them either :D. I found my flow very early on (probably the environment helped) and running felt so effortless! I stopped a few times for taking pics too This was the first time with my minimally cushioned shoes, and guess what, my feet and legs were not sore at all. I was stunned! I could have just keep going and also as a result, I was utilizing my body fat as a source of energy as I only used one gel (not sure if I needed to actually, but wanted to avoid exhaustion) and had one banana on the way (and didn't generate any lactic acids either). So I have to say, even though I haven't learned that "much" new during the program, those little things were worth more than I anticipated."Note : Received after 1/2 marathon of Angkor Wat _December 2015. "I ran my first half marathon in 2010. I enjoyed the 2.5 hours but my whole body ached for few days after! Even though I subsequently went on to do a few runs (10 – 15 km), I never really felt motivated to run vs going to the gym for my Body Combat/ Yoga/ Dance classes.Fast forward 5 years later, I am now a very busy full time working mum of 2 kids. I no longer have the luxury of time to travel to my gym as often as before. I wanted to look for a sport activity that I can do anywhere, and whenever I can find time. Running seems like the most obvious thing to do. However, I know I must enjoy running if it is going to be sustainable. My 10-week TOR journey had been eye-opening & fun. " Stephane's approach to running is truly unique. Positive, enthusiastic, attentive and encouraging, he does miracles (really).For personal reasons, I did not practice as regularly as advised during this program and I cannot say that running has become a habit yet. 2015:"As a beginner in running, I was very pleased to join the TOR class opened by Stephane. I had never been a very active runner before but I started practicing to have a healthier way of life and to manage my stress in my professional life. "I have been running for a long time, albeit some times more regularly than others. I typically hit the road when my body asked for it. This was like a call for a physical "detox".However, depending how long it was since my last run, I often came up with the desire to give it all out, push it to the limits. In some ways I guess to compensate the "feel bad" sentiment that I could have for not being active for a while. Surely then my body let me know that I went too far, with heart rate hitting the ceiling and legs aching after the run.ToR opened my eyes on to a better approach. First by going back to basics and (re)learning how to run properly, but then by opening a door to another dimension, linking up body and mind.
